Methods

Physical watch

In order to determine what size watch best fits the co-designer, five sizes are made and outfitted with velcro, so the co-designer can quickly switch out the different sizes. The decision-making process is helped by showing possible ways the watch application could look, to help visualize what needs to be on the screen.

Watch application

Several different mockups for the watch application are shown, with different interactions. The best parts of these are then combined to form the basis of the final product (see Products -> Watch application for the different mock-ups).

Webshop

The following pages of the updated webshop mockup with the automated KrachtPlanner sales page are walked through (see Products -> Planner webshop for the full design process of the webshop).

Planner app

The following pages of the planner app are walked through (see Products -> Planner website & phone app for the full design process of the app). The app was shown to the client. Where it was discussed in detail what she thought about it, looking specifically into if the client wanted to change anything or if they wanted to add any more features. The only additional feature that was wanted by the client was a to-do list page, where smaller things that needed to be done in the week could be added.

Physical watch

Size 3. (32 x 40 x 7mm) and 4. (28 x 35 x 7mm) are selected as the most desirable sizes, but in order to have a sufficiently large screen to properly show the app, the 3rd size is selected.

Watch application

The walkthrough of the watch application resulted in the following feedback:

  • Only implement a physical snooze button

In order to use the screen size most efficiently, the snooze button should only be a physical button on the watch.

  • Swipe up for privacy sake

To maximize privacy and discretion in use the user first has to slide up when receiving the notification before the screen where they select how they are feeling appears, this way they can do it in a private fashion and avoid unwanted questions.

  • Use colors in horizontal lines

Use colors to represent the different moods, they are more clear and easy to use than gray tones. While they do stand out more, the previous point ensures privacy.

  • Green 1s, Yellow 10s, Red 30s

If the user selects green, the notification can disappear almost immediately, but yellow and red tips have to be shown and read. 10 Seconds after the last interaction for yellow and 30 seconds after the last interaction for red the notification will automatically disappear. If the user has read the tips sooner they can press the screen to make the notification disappear instantly. If the user needs more time they can change these settings in the app.

  • Swipe to see all the tips

The screen of the watch is too small to show multiple tips, but getting a different tip every time is very undesirable for a user with autism, furthermore, certain tips are not always possible to execute. Because of this, all tips that are chosen by the user for a specific scenario (yellow, red, or both) are accessible by swiping right. This way the user can access all of the tips and knows in which order they are presented.

Webshop

The webshop is in the words of our co-designer already a good improvement. Only two stylistic changes need to be implemented.

The KrachtPlanner should get a white background and the beige used on the web pages should be lighter.

Planner app

The walkthrough of the watch application resulted in the following feedback:

  • Include the ability to turn off notifications for specific appointments or days

Sometimes the user knows that during a certain appointment or day they do not need the notifications, and getting them could cause irritation, therefore the ability to turn off notifications for specific appointments or days should be included

  • Include the ability to quickly switch from month to week to day

  • Include a section to add notes for a week (like in the physical KrachtPlanner)

  • Choose from preset tips or add others

To help users with setting up the app a preset list of tips should be available, if these do not fit the user they can add others and assign them to which scenario they relate (yellow, red, or both)

  • Use (a variation of) the AutismeKRACHT logo in the app
